Got Twitter?

Twitter anyone?

I’m just getting my feet wet…or my tweeter twitted, or something like that. If you log on to Twitter.com, and check out donbrunsbooks, you can see my daily two sentence blog about where I am, what I’m doing and random thoughts.

Who cares?

So far, without really reaching out, I’ve got about 15 followers…and I don’t even know fourteen of them.

Now there are people who have 250 followers…celebrities who have close to 1,000,000 followers, and I’ve been studying them, trying to figure out what makes Twitter so appealing. People like Sean Combs, (Pdiddy) is on and he says things like “Rave on!” That’s just one twitter. Other’s say “Going for 1,000,000 positive people. Are you there?” And I’m not sure I’m supposed to answer.

John Mayer, the singer/songwriter is on. A lot. Supposedly Jennifer Aniston broke up with him because he twittered too much. ( It doesn’t even sound nice, does it?) He says things like. “Not going to put lotion on my face tonight. Let the bitch breath.” I don’t want to know what John Mayer wears or doesn’t wear to bed.

There are twitters from William Schattner. I have nothing in common with Bill…except that I liked his portrayal of Denny Crane in Boston Legal. So I’ve avoided following him. I do have a friend, Jim Fussilli, who writes a music column for the Wall Street Journal ( I know…why do THEY need a music column?), and I check him out. He’s following some new bands and that’s kind of fun.

The New York Times twitters. And I guess that news stories are breaking on Twitter because you can Twitter by phone ( although I haven’t mastered that yet.) I’ll be on a subway, train and two planes today. Then in a car. I’ll be eating meals, thinking deep thoughts and worrying about the deadline on my 2010 book, plus thinking about the sales of Bahama Burnout, my March release. So consider yourself Twittered…even if you don’t Twitter.

Those are my thoughts for the day…the week, the weekend. That’s my Twitter!

Rave on!

  1. So help out those of us who are woefully un-technological, Don. What, exactly, is a Twitter? It’s my understanding (and I could be wrong) that you are limited to a certain amount of characters. I’m not sure I get this. No. I’m sure. I don’t get this. Can someone who’s way more modern and hip than me explain why this matters?

  2. You are limited to a very few number of characters, but the characters that are on Twitter are seriously just that.
    Characters!!!
I’m surprised Zorro isn’t on there.

  4. Oh…one more thing.

Last night’s news reported that a woman was a victim of a hit and run driver. After a 12 hour period (after he sobered up, I’m sure)some guy turned himself in stating he thinks he hit the woman….didn’t realize it because he was answering a text message on his cell phone…..no comment.

That sorry story was followed up with a joyful story about how Cleveland State University was going to use twitter to let people know about open parking spots as they became available….I don’t get it.
So now future stories from this news room are going to center on additional hit and runs at CSU by those reading their twitters and speeding to an open parking spot???

Am I getting to old here…or does this institue of higher learning need to get some common sense?
And why would a news organization promote hit and run situations?

I am getting to old….I don’t get it!

  5. Zorro’s right (as always) about how stupid the whole Twitter/parking spot thing is. Except you got the wrong university, Zorro! It’s University of Akron sending out the Twitters, not Cleveland State. Cleveland State is still working on the All Points Bulletin to get Zorro to pay that last parking ticket!

  6. CSU….they can beat Wake Forest. But they will never beat me!

  7. I used to work at a store that sold wild bird feed, feeders, bird houses and all that stuff. It was called Tweeter. I think Twitter is for the birds.

  8. If you’re in the Columbus, Ohio area . . .

Coming this Saturday, May 9–the Ohioana Book Festival. It starts at 10 and goes until 4:30 at the State Library of Ohio, 274 East First Avenue, Columbus. The Festival is free, and so is parking.

There will be lots of authors there (including me) and lots of books to buy and get signed.

    Stop by and say hi!

  11. Just back from the Ohioana Book Fair in Columbus and saw your post, Don. Congratulations! That’s terrific, and pretty funny to be your own runner-up!

  12. I used to be a secretary for The Ohioana Book Fair. Part time job, but I met a lot of authors. Gave me time to write MY books.
