Back at it

It’s 2009 and we’re back to blogging after a break. I thought I’d list out some of my resolutions. For some reason, I always work out a number of New Year’s resolutions for myself, some of which are gone before my New Years hangover. First, I always put down that I’m going to get in shape. I think this one is just habit. I haven’t much changed on that one in the last ten years. I did lose 10 lbs in 2008, but that doesn’t really count.

Of course, with the economy the way it is, we’re cutting back and trying to save more money. Not a fun goal, right up there with getting in shape, but it needs to be done.

Then of course are the writing goals. Now that I’m done reading books for the Edgars (over 500 titles, thank you very much!) I plan on getting back into my biography of Erle Stanley Gardner. I have 100 or so books to read by him and about him. So it’ll be a bit like reading for the Edgars, except all the titles are by one person. The deck seems a bit stacked, but oh well.

I’ve also started working a bit harder on my on-line presence. I’ve updated MurderMustAdvertise’s website. I’m adding new content to it every 2 weeks, so that viewers will keep coming back to the site. I’ve also added a number of links to order, Intent to Sell, so I have hopes of increasing sales as well.

The last one is that I want a vacation this year. We weren’t able to take one last year, and it colored my view of the whole year. I expect to be able to travel some this year. It’s very refreshing for me to be able to change my view. I think that by changing where you are, you get to see the world in a different way. I enjoy that feeling.

I’d love to hear other people’s resolutions or if you even do them!

  1. My biggest goal this year is to write every day FIRST…before I check email, before I read blogs (sorry). And so far, I’ve done it. It has required dragging my backside out of bed earlier in the morning, so I intentionally took the weekend off to indulge in my favorite drug: sleep! But I’m making slow steady progress on the short story that’s due for submission the end of next month.

  2. I think it’s so important, what you said about changing where you are. If you never get out and have experiences, there’s going to be nothing to write about. You need that change of scenery to refresh and invigorate!

  3. I agree, Jeff. Different locations give you different perspectives. And I love tying in my trips to locations in my novels.

My resolution is simply to write more and sell more books!

Looking forward to your marketing tips later this week.

  5. My main goal this year is to get healthier. Not just losing weight, but to feel better overall. We, too, have decided to go somewhere during the year. We have, in fact, made the reservations. I would say it’s a done deal, but no deal is ever done until it’s done, is it?

And I’ll be doing more writing this year. I finished a book and turned it in right before Christmas. Met with the publisher today and will start on the next one next week. It’s due mid-April.

That’s all to say that I’m trying to work toward my goals. So far, I’m doing better than in years past!

  6. Wow, I feel so lazy when I hear everyone else’s resolutions!!

  7. Annette’s resolution resonates with me. I had a bad year this year, writing-discipline-wise, for the first time in three years, and I think it was because I slipped out of my strict morning writing routine. I let other things get in the way. Made for a bad Dec-Jan of playing catch-up. Morning writing is the way to go for me!
