Happy Pre-Turkey Day!

You’re busy getting ready for Thanksgiving. I am, too, so I’ll make this short and sweet. We’ll have six for dinner tomorrow (a smaller crowd than some other years) and I’m anticipating a day of rest, relaxation and sitting in front of the fire. The weather here in northeast Ohio is certainly cooperating–we’ve had plenty of snow and apparently, there’s more to come. Yes, it gets you in the holiday mood. And yes (again) it can stop any time. I’ve had my fill.

As my Thanksgiving present to all of you, I’d like to share the recipe for our cranberry sauce. It’s easy and delicious. So here goes:

1 cup sugar
1 cup Port wine
1 bag of cranberries

Cook the sugar and wine together until the sugar melts, add the cranberries and cook until the cranberries pop, about five minutes. Cool, and store in the fridge. Keeps well, mine’s already made.

That’s it. Enjoy! And have a happy, peaceful Thanksgiving!

  1. Casey;
    Thanks for the idea. I only had the wine, so I drank a cup. Then another. It was so delicious, I drank another. Someday I will try it with cranberries and sugar. Until then, I will have another cup.

  4. Send it down my way; Georgia hasn’t had snow in about 20 years I think and I’ll gladly stay off the roads (Gerogians also don’t know how to DRIVE in snow)

  5. That’s OK, Marissa, Ohioans aren’t all that great driving in snow, either. And we should know how to do that!!!

    As for Don and the Port wine, I hope you bought a good Port, Don. I use the cheap stuff in the cranberry sauce, don’t think I’d want to drink it!

    Thought I’d try your version of this fantastic dish…..I’ll sub some Irish for the port though….may even make Casey’s dish better than it alway is.

    Will advise after a few cups….
