Thanksgiving

Well, the ads for Black Friday have already begun. I keep seeing those delicious deals which are only available to shoppers between hideous hour and crack of dawn. I have to say that some of the deals look pretty interesting to me. Some of the technology deals are good and I could use a new computer, just the thing to key the next novel on. Perhaps I’ll be able to drag my turkey-ladened body out of my chair and go shopping.

But the real thing I am thinking of this holiday is how lucky I am. Here I am at 48, still healthy (and still with naturally dark hair), living with the perfect spouse, doing things I love to do and living out dreams I’ve had since childhood. I have multiple books out, I’ve been nominated for an Edgar (though in that boyhood dream, I won) and I’m still blessed with the faculties to write more books. I need to stop and remind myself more of how lucky I really am.

I won’t be traveling too far this Thanksgiving. I only have a few miles to my parents’ house and a full meal. It’s a wonderful time, as both my parents are healthy enough to host Christmas, the first time in four years. More to be happy about.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday.

  1. Thanksgiving….the best family holiday.

    And then there’s the NFL, which I follow very little any more. Do the Detroit Lions still play on turkey day? And if so, are they still getting beaten badly on national tv?

    And the Dallas Cowboys usually play on that day too. Is this still the way the NFL celebrates Thanksgiving?

    Happy t-day to all.

  2. Jeff;
    About 6 months ago I treated myself to a Toshiba laptop with the big screen and expanded keyboard. I like it a lot. Of course the craze in Japan is writing a novel on your cell phone, so maybe that would be the way to go.

  4. Takes me longer than it should take any human just to send a text message on a cell phone. I’ve heard about the novel/cell phone craze. Just can’t imagine it!

  5. Haha, I usually pick up the phone and call if a text requires any more than a yes/no answer from me. I’d have to phone my next book to my agent !!

  6. Ugh, I NEVER shop on Black Friday. I think that sounds like hell on earth. As for writing on a phone…I’d rather stick to the MacBook I got a couple of months ago. LOVE it.

    As for being thankful, it sounds like you have plenty of blessings, Jeff. As do I. Thanks for the reminder.
