I cancelled my subscription to Men’s Health yesterday. I loved that magazine…funny, informative, brash, helpful tips…but yesterday they splashed Barack Obama’s portrait on the cover. I don’t need my escape magazine to push their agenda in my face.
This past weekend, Comedy Central’s John Stewart spoke before a group of Boston college students and opened his speech with “f#%$ Sarah Pailan.” Went to the movies a couple of weeks ago and saw Kelsey Grammer and John Voight do their best to run down the liberals in “American Carol.”
I understand that these people can do what they want and say what they want…but the Bruce Springsteens, Rob Lowes, Barbara Streisands, Madonnas, Richard Pettys and the others that are making the rounds are our entertainment. Men’s Health was a fun magazine. When the places I go for escape push reality in my face, where do I go?
Cuba Gooding Jr. said, just last week, that he has never pushed an agenda because he didn’t want people to see his movies and then realize they don’t like him because of his politics. He said this just before he led a huge rally for Obama in downtown Lima, Ohio.
I’m not pushing an agenda or a candidate. I just want to escape all this craziness for a few minutes, and it’s getting harder and harder.

I understand that while it’s a good movie,W ( the story of George Bush) had a miserable opening in movie theaters this weekend. Apparently no one wants to relive the last 8 years. People go to movies to escape! Or they used to.

I wondered that same thing, Orroz. I saw a preview for that movie last night and thought, “Why would I EVER want to see that movie right now (or ever), with all the politics going on everywhere?” They made a bad decision to open that right now.
Hang in there, Don! The election will be over in two weeks — maybe then we can go back to living our normal lives.

It is a sad sad world we live in when I won’t turn on the radio at this time of the year because NPR is fund raising…again….for weeks.
The television is nothing but political ads…..and all the other ads trying to get you to beg your doctor for a new drug to help stop whatever….only to tell you the drug may kill you faster than the fictional disorder they are trying to convince you may kill you.
Then we have the Hollywood know it alls beating a drum for their candidate. Which is why I go out of my way to avoid movies with many actors. The instant I see their face I’m reminded of their political opinion. It really does spoil the movie for me, no matter how good the flick is.
Hmmmm. Maybe I’ll just pick up another good book. I know this writer/singer/song composer from Lima.
Hmmmm. I hear he can really spin a good yarn.

Now that’s a case of clear, level-headed thinking Zman! Yes it is.

I’m puzzled why Oliver Stone made a movie about W at this point in time. It’s like making a movie about 9-11 in October of 2001. There’s no historical context. We’re still living the story. If his point was to lampoon Bush, then make it funny. If it’s a sincere biography, then one might want to wait until his presidency is actually over to document it. The average movie goer may be thinking the same thing and heading for “Beverly Hills Chihuahua.”

Amen, Brother.
I heard my wife pick up the phone the other day, listen for a minute and then say, “If you’ll just just tell me who you’re calling for, I assure you, I WILL NOT vote for them.” She turned to me and said, “Imagine that, they hung up.”

I’m with all of you, sick to death of politics, politicians, and people who tell me I’m wrong because I don’t believe ______ (fill in the blank). I will be well and truly glad when it’s all over, no matter who wins!

I’ve discovered they can’t follow you into the bathroom… though, the friends tend to look at you strange when you set up the laptop on the toilet lid and use the lip of the tub as an office chair.
