Last Day
Today is my last day of school for the year. Mind you, I still have to clean the room, put things away, do my yearly PD and go to some training, but today is the last day for students. And it’s a different place when the students are gone.
I’m sad every year when the students leave. I’m going to especially miss this group, because I’ve had them for 2 years. I taught 6th when I started out, and then this group followed me to 8th grade when I moved up two grades. So I know them, their families, and it’s been a joy to have that many friendly faces for 2 years. Last night was the 8th grade graduation, and I was able to contribute some cute 6th grade pics as well as things from this year. I had a hard time holding back the tears that night.
I’ll be working at the University of Cincinnati this summer again doing math and literacy research in various evaluations. It’s still math, but more applied math than teaching. It’s always a welcome change to sit quietly in a room and crunch numbers after the hub-bub of school for 8 months.
Plus with the new book coming out, I’ll be doing some promotional work as well. I hope to see you on the road. I’m the one who’ll be looking relaxed. Have a great Memorial Day.
