Island Magazine reviewed the March book, St. Barts Breakdown, last week. Great review…except for the last line. Something like…”It’s not great literature, but it makes for a great day at the beach.”
It’s been a mean winter up north. I talked to some people this weekend at Left Coast Crime in Denver. They read our blog and told me they find it very entertaining. Fun to read. Humerous. A riot. I write part of the blog and find it entertaining as well. Every one of the contributors brings experience and talent to the site, and every one of us lives ( at least for part of the year) in the frigid north. We know what snow, sleet, slush, and freezing rain can do to the landscape.
I live part of the year in Sarasota, Florida. And I understand what sun, sand, surf and warm weather can do the landscape.
And, given my multiple experiences, I would choose a great day at the beach any time of the year! It may be just me, but all I’m shooting for is a ‘Great day at the beach!”
So, I take it as a compliment. St. Barts Breakdown is a ‘Great Day At The Beach’. What more could you want mid-March?

A great day at the beach is one of the best things life has to offer.
Your books rock, Don, and I can’t wait to read the latest.
-
So does that mean you’ve changed plans and are taking everyone to the beach for your launch party tonight? : ) Congrats on the great review!

I can’t understand people who spend half of the year in Florida. If you don’t suffer through the long winters up here, how can you truly enjoy the two or three days of summer we have?

Sean Chercover also writes books that rock! Big City Bad Blood is a fabulous read.
Judy…I DID take everyone to South Beach for the premier of South Beach Shakedown, but you didn’t come along.
So…I decided you wouldn’t come to St. Barts, for the launch of St. Barts Breakdown either.

60 years of suffering. It’s nice to get away for a couple of weeks here and there.

Don, here’s a great title for your next tropica thriller: Twist of Lima.
No need to thank me.

Since I travel for my day job, a great day at the beach means more like racing through rush hour traffic to get a glimpse of the beach after a long day of travel or working. Being in St. Louis, has the same weather “Perks” you get in Ohio.
Those beach teasers I get during my traveling don’t do anything at all to satisfy my need for a great day at the beach. For example, I was in Los Angeles all last week. Tuesday night We fought traffic on the 405 and Sunset Blvd. to get to Malibu and have dinner at Gladstone’s. Since it was pre-DST, it was almost dark when we got there.
However, Don, next opportunity I get to actually enjoy the beach, I’ll grab a copy of St. Barts Breakdown and I’m sure it will be a great day.

Wilfred Bereswill has written a fine book, Reason For Dying, which will be out soon.

I won’t. Sounds like something Z would come up with.

Hey, Don, thanks for the plug.
I planned on attending Left Coast Crime, only my boss had other plans for me last week.

Taste of Lima…..I like that!
Nice CR.
And Don, son of a beach, you give me to much credit. I ain’t that clever!
I’m Irish……after my 5 AM Irish coffes with 1/2 a bottle of Jameson and all that Bailey’s, even I loose my edge.
And its all down hill from there.

“A great day at the beach”.
I’ll take that any day of the week, pass on the book and let me try out this beach thing.

Congrats on the review, Don. And on the “beach” comment . . . since that’s what folks go to St. Bart’s for, the book being equated to a great day at the beach obviously is code for “this book is perfect.” I have no doubt it is!
