Since I saw most of the movies up for Academy Awards, I decided to watch the award show. John Stewart from Comedy Central was the host. Of course this was the first award show since the writer’s strike ended and I thought…they’ll be fresh and funny. They weren’t. I thought the entire presentation was lame!
Saturday night was the first night for Saturday Night Live since the writer’s strike. I stayed up late to see how much creative energy had been stored up by these funny writers. It turns out there wasn’t much. So far, I’ve been disappointed in what the newly empowered writers have come up with. I think C.R.’s little bits in our blog are funnier than this stuff…and he’s not THAT funny.
Maybe they need to go back on strike and figure out exactly what it is that they do. Or maybe they need to write a lot more drafts before they go national. Just my opinion.

Thanks Don.

Actually, I’m usually amused by your humor. Now, back to that book business phone call…

Sure am happy I did not invest time in the TV programs you did Don.
Have not watched SatNgtLive for quite a while now….and neither Casey or I are into any of those award shows.
As for CR big secret, I’m sure the word will be out shortly.

Speaking of CR, he had a dandy talk last night at Parma South Library. The librarian in charge said she’s been trying to set up a program with some writer named Casey Daniels. Apparently the said writer is playing hard to get.
She should do it — there were a lot of Polish folks there.

As for the comedy writing, Don, I watched a little of the Oscars, and Jon Stewart’s material was indeed pretty tame.
I haven’t watched SNL for a while now. It’s probably hilarious to younger viewers, but like hiphop, it no longer speaks to me. Which is okay. On this morning’s romp with the dogs on the golf course, W3A and I swapped our favorite lines from the Andy Griffith show. What does that tell you?

CR, I’ve never heard from the Parma South branch library. So if she’s been trying to set up a program, she’s trying to set it up with the wrong Casey Daniels. Do you have an email for the librarian? Want to send it over to my email addy?

RE: SNL, I feel your pain, Don. You could change the channel. I, alas, could not, as I was working master control that night. Although the “once a year period” fake spot got a laugh, that was about it. It seems like most of the current SNL cast simply don’t know comedy. The one-legged woman gag died three years ago. If you’re going to satirize a TV show, pick a HIT show. Who watches VH-1 these days? They really don’t have a break-out performer like an Eddie Murphy or Mike Myers to light up the skits. SNL needs to be retired. Unfortunately, if they cancel it, all NBC has to fill the time slot is guys playing poker. Gads!
Did you see the ratings on the Oscars? In the tank. This year’s films just didn’t matter to many people.

It is a shame, isn’t it, that with so many channels to chose from, there’s so little to watch on TV. Reality shows are just plain dumb and boring. SitComs aren’t much better. There are one or two dramas that are worth the time and effort but truth be told, if I wasn’t sitting and knitting while the TV was on, I wouldn’t be sitting there at all. Just not worth wasting brain cells on most of the drek that passes for entertainment.

I always think the hosts of award shows are lame. I can hardly stand to look. As for SNL, I stick to the “best of” shows they do once in a while (a lot in a while during the strike!) — at least SOME of those are funny.
