    Spam A LOT

We here at the Little Blog are discussing get additional spam protection for our site, because of the amount of spam we’re receiving on a regular basis. The matter started slowly at first. We received the generic spams for drugs and porn. Fortunately, those always had 10-20 URLs in them and were easily caught by our spam filter. Then came the single URL spams looking like comments, with a bland “nice site.” These got through and many of our older posts are full to the brim with these. Drugs, porn, more drugs, and ring tones. Lately it’s been gospel ring tones, which seems a bit oxymoronic to ring for the Lord while spamming my site.

Plus now there’s the emails. We’re getting swamped with email spam at our site as well. This is taking some Herculean efforts to clean up on a regular basis. Not to mention time. To the writers who write here, time is important and shouldn’t be wasted by cleaning up Xanax ads. Of course, none of the email addresses listed are valid. I tried to write to one.

I am curious to know who exactly would buy cheap drugs from the Internet — as C.R. said, there are doctors — and there’s a paper trail if you order on-line. So it can’t be that profitable.

Spam isn’t just for drugs. I receive unwanted emails in my personal account from authors wanting me to buy their books or vote for them in a contest. I’ve gotten 4 posts on my Facebook page in the last 2 days from some woman who wants people to read her blog. Show some respect — I’m not a billboard for her work.

Anyway, I hope that we buy the software and can resume more writing and less time deleting spam.

    3. Great. Now we’re going to get spam from people thinking we’re selling Broadway tickets. : )

It is getting out of hand. Who are the people who actually buy stuff from spam, and exactly how dumb are they?

    4. I actually like Spam.

When I was a kid my mother used to dice it up and fry it with scrambled eggs. I haven’t had that for years and years, though.

And do any of you know what state has the highest per capita consumption of Spam? (Hint: It’s not Ohio, although it sells like hotcakes in Lima for some reason.)

    5. Hawaii — I had to look it up on-line :)

    6. Had to look it up on-line? Then you don’t get the lovely prize — which of course is a case of Spam.

    7. Lima? We don’t touch the stuff. It’s veggies in Lima Bean town.

    8. Don, is Lima named after Lima (leema) in Peru?

My hometown of Medina is named after the holy city in Arabia. It was originally called Mecca, but there was already a Mecca in Ohio, so they changed the name to the same name of the county. Right up the road from Medina is a small berg called Weymouth (after the city in Egypt) and there was a town called Bagdag, although history has wiped it off the map. There is also a River Styx. And of course there is the city of Brunswick, named after you know who.

    9. On a recent trip to the grocery store, Zorro was given a free sample of Spam. It’s a single-serving pouch, and I’m more than willing to donate it as a prize!

    10. Lima, Peru. Yes. And of course there is Corwin, an extinct town in Henry County, Indiana. They died from eating…of course, ground pork shoulder and all the other stuff in Spam. Look it up!!!!

    11. This is happening to me too, sadly. I woke one morning thinking I had achieved instant fame when my email box said I had 240 new emails. Then I discovered they were all of those multiple url emails for drugs. God almighty, is there a place we can send these people????
