Cabin Fever
I honestly don’t know how those plains people used to do it. Go into a hut, and stay for months, buried under the ice and snow until spring. No contact with the outside world and no activity.
I’ve been off for 2 days now for snow, and I’m about to run out of things to do. I’ve cleaned the house, cooked (of all things!), walked the puppy (who adores ice for some reason), wrote, done blog posts, exercised, and a million other little things. And that was the first day! So today is a repeat of the last. The ironic thing is that I’ve now done most of what I had planned to do over the weekend, so now I’ll be without anything to do then too!
This is definitely one of the downfalls of me being a teacher. Long breaks are an anathema to me. I enjoy the lack of structure, but I have to keep busy or go crazy (or worse yet, spend too much money.) So I work at UC, write a lot, take on freelance clients and other things to make life go along smoother. I couldn’t imagine sitting by the pool. It’s just not me. First, I’d burn in 5 minutes, and by 10 minutes, I’d be in the shade reading a book, looking for more books by the same author, and wondering if any biographical material exists for the author. You get the idea. My poor brain never gets a vacation.
Anyway, it looks like we’re back to school today, but they’re predicting snow again Sunday night.. I hope that’s not true, or I might stop by to clean your house as well.
