70 weeks a year
The advance reader copy for St. Bart Breakdown just came out, and it was only two weeks ago that the hardback of Stuff To Die For was released. Two books this year. And two next year.
People tell me “When I retire…I’ll write that book.” People say…”When things settle down.” They make wild claims like “When I get all of this behind me…I’ll finally have the time to whatever.” And they ask every writer in the world…”Where do you find the time?”
For all the claims about time…like, ‘finding time’, ‘making time’, ‘killing time’, ‘making time stand still’, most people still don’t understand.
I’m running three businesses, writing two books a year, working on an anthology, and I waste more time than anyone I know. But I make time for what’s important. I get up a little earlier, go to bed a little later, shave half an hour off lunch so I can catch up on some writing, go into work an hour earlier, work during the halftime show during the game…and somehow find two hours a day when I can work on whatever project I want to. Two hours a day. It’s not that hard to find. And I still have more free time than I should.
So when people say “When I finally find the time”, I just want to point out that it’s right there. In front of you. Because two hours a day gives you an extra eighteen forty hour weeks. Eighteen weeks. Imagine what you can do in eighteen weeks. You could write a book, learn to play piano, learn a foreign language, earn a degree, build a home based business, watch a whole lot more television, or whatever you want to do.
Somebody told me a long time ago…you can make excuses or you can get it done. But you can’t do both. You can make those two hours happen, or you can find all the excuses in the world why those two hours don’t exist. It’s up to you. But believe me, they’re available every single day, and they are not that hard to find. And when you finally do find them, you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish. Imagine, 70 weeks in a year. The possibilities are endless.
