Well, actually hot everything this week. As odd as it may seem, as Judy is awash in water, we’re in the midst of the worst draught that I can remember. It’s been in the high 90s and over 100 several days over the past 2-3 weeks. The ground has cracks the size of craters, the grass is just an expanse of dried straw, and there’s no end in sight. I have a better feeling for the Dust Bowl after this month.
The draught is localized. Last week, when I went to my aunt’s funeral, the land was verdant and lush. Here it’s dust on top of clay.
It reminds me of my days in Kansas, where they used to record heat by the number of days in a row that the temperatures cracked 100. And yet, they kept on going. They played tennis in the heat (I tried, and what was left of me had to drink a river of water to get back to normal.) The only concession they made was to take off their ties in summer. It was open collar, and of course one-button only.
Here many of the school districts have cancelled classes for yesterday and today, a reverse snow day if you will. I’ve never been a fan of extreme heat (moderation in all things including weather, if you please.) but this has been ridiculous.
On the bright side, I’m getting a lot of writing done, staring out the window from inside the house and drinking lemonade.

Weird weather here to!
First a mild mild winter that turned very bad on Valentine’s day and continued through the first month of baseball….the Indian were snowed out of their opening season series. Then moved the second series to Milwaukee. Who in baseball thinks you can start baseball in April in Cleveland…Chicago…Detroit…should be declared stupid. Milwaukee has a dome! This makes them the sharpest knife in the drawer since the other three cities built new stadiums over the past decade or so and even with 200 years of history to rely on, though a retractable dome was not needed!
Then came summer….off and on hot. Plesant 70’s one day, high 80’s and 90’s the next, with humidity competing with the tempetures. And very dry! Crack open the ground dry.
Now, still the roler coaster ride with temps except mostly hot and humid….and lots of rain. Not Judy rain, but lots of rain.
August has been declared the wettest on record…last week! And now more rain is on the way.
And up next on the weather mobile??????

Stay cool, Jeff! And what are you writing these days?
We had the drought up until now this summer. Hot and dry, dry, dry. The farmers can’t win — first they had to replant because there was no rain, then the second plantings got no rain. And now that it’s time to pick tomatoes, they can’t get into the flooded fields and those beautiful veggies are sitting there rotting. Augh! Our Catholic neighbor says there was a small parish church closed in Cuba, Ohio, last winter. It was St. Isadore (don’t know about spelling) who is the patron saint of farmers. Apparently he’s none too happy about having his church closed…

Stay cool, Jeff. Wish we could. No AC here and I’m tired of being hot and sticky!
Judy, our local news showed Ottawa last night. It’s awful. Hope you are weathering the storm.

We are doing well, Casey. Our electricity has (thank God) stayed on, which means our sump pump and AC can continue to work. We’re a lot better off than lots of folks, even though we can’t drink our water! : ) Our mailbox is now peeking out of the water, which is a good sign.

A power surge killed our air conditioning a few days ago and now I’m writing topless, four feet away from an electric fan powerful enough to test wing vibration on a 747.
Of course I am also drinking hot coffee. My body instructed me long ago: no hot coffee, no words.

Judy, with all this water and all these counties under a state of emergency, somebody, probably some genius at the department of agriculture, will tell us we’re still in a drought. When that happens can I sock him in the kisser?
Cuba, Ohio! Yee cats. I was born in those parts. (Wilmington)
C.R. I tried writing naked once. But I have cats…

And cats are a problem when you write naked??????
Dog guy, alergic to cats…so, I don’t know.
