A Whirlwind Week

Ask any author how exciting his or her life is and you’re bound to get the same answer: not very. It’s always a kick to get an offer, always cheery (especially to the ol’ bank account) to sign a new contract. It’s great to see a book finally out and on the shelves, too. But in between those events . . . well, frankly, in between those few-and-far-between occurrences, the life of a writer is general pretty dull.

After all, we sit in front of our computers all day, every day. Not too much exciting about that.

This past week, for me, has provided a little change of pace. For one thing, we visited a “haunted” B&B in Cambridge, Ohio. The good news is that the Colonel Taylor Inn is fabulous. Great people, good food, a wonderful room, even a fireplace in the bathroom. The bad news . . .well, none of the five ghosts who supposedly haunt the place made an appearance.

The only ghost I saw at the B&B

No sooner had we returned from that adventure than I found out my agent was in Columbus, Ohio for a writers’ conference. She’s been my agent for almost three years and we’ve never met. You guessed it, I was back in the car in a flash and headed for the conference. It was great to finally meet her and we got along famously.

In addition to all that, I got the cover for “The Chick and the Dead,” book #2 in the Pepper Martin mystery series. It’s terrific and I will try to post it.

Also got copy edits to read for another book I’m working on.

Did I say a writer’s life was dull? Actually, after a week like that, I could use a little dull, especially since I have a deadline looming! Heading off to hide out with my computer.

  1. Nothing like busy-ness to make you appreciate the norm. Your trip to the haunted house sounds fun! Sorry about the shy ghosts, though…

  2. Casey, your life isn’t sounding too dull right now! Good luck with the deadlines and copy edits and ghost hunting!

  3. So proud of myself for actually getting that photo to upload! Thanks to Heather (and her husband) for fixing it when I messed it up. It was supposed to include a caption:

  4. Casey, I’m thinking maybe the ghosts were intimidated by ‘The Don’ and they didn’t want to compete with a mob ghost! I can’t wait to read the second book in the Pepper Martin Series!

  5. Dull? Jeff has a publisher, doesn’t have a publisher, sells a book…starts a new one, Heather is buying groceries, candles, and getting rid of odors in the kitchen, Judy is breaking new ground in library signings and Sharon is writing newspaper columns, blogs and books…and you - Doesn’t sound dull.
    Sounds like fun.
