Question:
Hi,
What are the best resources a “reader” can use to keep up on events such as Magna cum Murder, writing workshops, etc.?

I really like Mystery Scene Magazine and Crimespree Magazine. (Just “google” them and their websites will pop up.) A great Web resource is Cluelass.com (www.cluelass.com) which is a comprehensive compendium of conferences, books, magazines and so forth. You could also join either Sisters in Crime or Mystery Writers of America, or both! The newsletters from those organizations do a great job of tracking such events.
Hope to meet you at one soon!

I know. Geez, Sharon! I was trying to think of replies and Sharon stole them all. : )
You should try out a conference, Phyllis. They’re great fun, and it’s a super way to meet people who enjoy the same kinds of books and conversation you do.
Hope to see you at one soon.

Jeff hosts a newsgroup called Murder Must Advertise. I usually just watch from the shadows, but these people know about conferences and networking opportunities that I’ve never heard of before. Places I didn’t know existed.
You might look into joining the news group!

Ok, I might be biased but Mystery Scene Magazine is one of the best resources around for the money. (Note: I am a contributing editor for the magazine.)
Also I love Publisher’s Marketplace. They have a Deal Report that tells you all of the books being sold and to whom. It’s a wonderful source for learning what is being written and who is buying.
